Jonathan Stehney is a versatile bassoonist whose expertise spans Renaissance music on period instruments to cutting-edge contemporary and experimental works. He has performed widely, premiering new pieces for bassoon and contrabassoon, and has collaborated with composers such as Sofia Gubaidulina, Pierre Boulez, Péter Eötvös, Olga Neuwirth, James Tenney, Mark Menzies, and Karlheinz Stockhausen. He studied with Pascal Gallois, Paul Riveaux, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Julie Feves, Stephen Paulson, and Frank Morelli. Dr. Stehney earned his BFA from CalArts, MM and Performance Certificate from the San Francisco Conservatory, and DMA from SUNY Stony Brook. Based in Southern California, he performs with orchestras including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Long Beach Symphony, San Diego Symphony, and in pit orchestras. He frequently records for film and television, working with composers like John Williams, Jeff Russo, and Kris Bowers. Jonathan teaches at CalArts, Cal State San Bernardino, and the Redlands Conservatory and also arranges and orchestrates for chamber and pit ensembles.
