Yue Cheng

Coming from a family of musicians, oboist and conductor Yue Cheng has distinguished himself as one of China’s most outstanding musicians. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin (Bachelor’s degree) and the Hartt School of Music (Master’s degree), Mr. Cheng studied with Leonhard Seifert, Richard D. Blair, Humbert Lucarelli, and Jerry Junkin. With international performance experience, he has played in the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, the U.S., Japan, China, and Brazil. Recent career highlights include masterclasses at West Point Academy and NYU Steinhardt, as well as guest performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Hamburg Symphoniker. In 2013, he served as a member of the jury panel for the International Double Reed Society Competition and was appointed music director of the Duke University Kunshan Philharmonic Orchestra from 2019–2022. Currently, he holds multiple positions as music director of the NYU Shanghai Chamber Orchestra, associate arts professor at NYU Shanghai, and area head of the NYUSH performing arts program.
