Luis De León

Luis De León is a Guatemalan oboist and Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Kansas, where he is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) with Dr. Margaret Marco. He regularly performs with the NAVO Chamber Orchestra, Kansas City Baroque Consortium, and Kansas City Symphony. Formerly, he played English horn with the Boca del Río Philharmonic in Mexico under Jorge Mester.

As a member of The Orchestra of the Americas, he toured the U.S., Canada, and China, collaborating with conductors such as Benjamin Zander, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Jean Pascal, and José Serebrier, and recorded From the New World for Fidelio Music.

Luis is Artistic Director of Guatemala’s Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil Intercultural, where he leads educational initiatives and outreach aimed at empowering young musicians across the country.

He earned his Master of Music, Bachelor of Music, and Artist Diploma from the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University, where he studied with Dr. Susan Tomkiewicz. His first teachers were Fielding Roldán at the National Conservatory of Music in Guatemala and Jorge Rodríguez at the National Institute of Music of Costa Rica.
