Double Entendre Music Ensemble

Founded in 2005, NYC-based Double Entendre Music Ensemble is a collective of like-minded musicians devoted to adventurous exploration of the double reed repertoire. Noted for its first-rate musicianship and creativity, the Ensemble illuminates classics, revives neglected music, and commissions new works. Double Entendre has commissioned pieces most recently by James Lee lll, Wendy Griffiths, Stephanie Berg, Rich Shemaria, and Caleb Burhans.
This season, the Ensemble opened for Movie Night (The Adventures of Robin Hood) sponsored by Inwood Film Works at The Hudson, featuring arrangements for 4 oboes, 2 English horns, 4 bassoons, and contrabassoon (arr. Gilbert Dejean) of film scores by Erich Korngold. The Ensemble also appeared at Penn Station and the Staten Island Ferry Terminal as participants of Music Under New York, and performed its first Baroque period instrument concert in the Octagon Room at the Morris-Jumel Mansion (1768), Manhattan’s oldest surviving residence.
