Alfonso Hernández is a celebrated Guatemalan pianist and arts advocate, praised for his energy, precision, and delicacy. He holds a DMA from the University of Maryland, where he focused on 20th- and 21st-century Guatemalan piano literature. A musical prodigy, he debuted with the National Symphonic Orchestra of Guatemala at age 12 and won nearly all national competitions. Internationally, he earned awards from Lynn and Moores Concerto Competitions, TMTA, MTNA, Chautauqua, and the Maria Clara Cullell Competition. He has performed at festivals such as Chautauqua, Aspen, and Zeister Muziekdage. Alfonso earned an MBA in Arts Innovation from the Global Leaders Institute and co-founded the International Chamber Music Festival of Guatemala (FIMCA) and the “Luis Felipe Arias” Piano Festival and Competition. He also holds degrees from the University of Houston, Eastman School of Music, and Lynn University. Through performance and leadership, he champions music’s role in cultural innovation and social impact.
