Showcasing a Chinese Oboe Concerto: “Nangma” by Chen Gang

Kamil Tarnawczyk will perform The Butterfly Lovers’ Oboe Concerto by Chen Gang. This piece is the focus of Kamil’s masters’ thesis project at Washington State University and has never been performed outside of Asia. Many new oboe works have been premiered in the past decade and subsequently gained popularity, but there lies a unique opportunity within Chen Gang’s concerto to give new, international life to a work written in the 1980’s with untapped potential in our repertoire.
