Sue Barber

Sue Barber is Professor of Bassoon at James Madison University and artist-faculty at the Brevard Music Festival. An active soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician, she performs with City Music Cleveland and North Charleston Pops!, and has played with the Richmond Symphony, Opera Roanoke, and internationally with Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia (Spain). She’s appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center, and served as principal or assistant principal with multiple orchestras, including Hartford Symphony and Sarasota Opera. A frequent guest artist and clinician, Barber has presented across the U.S., Europe, China, and Brazil, and has held a visiting professorship at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. She has performed at major conferences such as IDRS, The Midwest Clinic, and National Flute Association Conventions. A founding member of the Friendly City Chamber Players, she holds degrees from the Crane School of Music, The Juilliard School, and Louisiana State University.
