Bassoonist and composer Reed Hanna has been the principal bassoonist of the Augusta (GA) Symphony since 2016, and performs regularly with other orchestras in South Carolina and Georgia. He is the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the South Carolina Philharmonic’s Youth Orchestra Program, and also directs the concert band and teaches woodwind lessons, music theory, and music education courses at Coker University in Hartsville, SC. Reed primarily composes chamber music for woodwinds, and his compositions have become known among wind players for their interesting and imaginative musical ideas that challenge performers and captivate audiences. He holds a DMA from the University of South Carolina, where he studied bassoon with Michael Harley. He also studied with Daryl Durran, Jason Worzbyt, and Mahlon Grass.
