Isabel Jeremias, a Costa Rican bassoonist, is an accomplished soloist and chamber musician. She has performed throughout Central and South America, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Japan, and the United States. Isabel is a member of Syntagma Musicum (baroque bassoon) and the founder/director of the Phoenix Bassoon Quartet.
She has served as a juror for bassoon competitions such as the Primer Concurso para Jóvenes Fagotistas (Peru), Yamaha Festival (Colombia), IDRS Young Artist Competition (2009, England), the Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition, and the Gillet-Fox IDRS Competition (2010).
Since 2017, she has chaired the IDRS Young Artist Competition for bassoon. Isabel studied at the University of Costa Rica, the Karlsruhe Hochschule in Germany, and the University of Kansas as a Fulbright Scholar.
She also completed a specialization in “New Sounds” at the Würzburg Musikhochschule with a DAAD scholarship and studied baroque bassoon at ESMUC in Barcelona.
